In the area of the B-Plan 100 "Wittenberger Bahn" in Lüneburg, the construction of office, commercial and residential buildings in closed blocks as well as detached urban villas in multi-storey housing and terraced and semi-detached houses is planned on former railway land. Due to the heavy bombing of the freight station in World War II, a high density of unexploded bombs was to be expected in advance.
Due to the former use of the areas typical for the railway and the elevation to the current level with partly contaminated fill material, it was to be expected that excavated material would be produced in the course of the soil movements, which is to be classified as contaminated material according to waste law criteria. Within the framework of the planned new land use, the areas of the soil that were classified as contaminated material according to waste management criteria due to the previous use or the built-in fill material were remediated from November 2013 to March 2015.
In addition to the soil management, the remediation of a large-volume contaminated site (former tank farm) with BTEX and CHC contamination was carried out.
For the soil management and the remediation of contaminated sites, we applied for grants from the European funding programme EFRE and from funds from the state of Lower Saxony on behalf of Ilmenaugarten GmbH & Co. KG, we applied for subsidies from the European funding programme EFRE and from funds of the State of Lower Saxony. We also handled the subsequent funding management.
The entire preparation and redevelopment area covered 8.5 ha.
