Description

The former BW hospital on the Zwischenahner Meer was acquired by the "Palais am Meer" investor group in 2013. Due to its previous use in World War II as part of the Rostrup airbase, the site is classified as contaminated with explosive ordnance. History has shown that the area was badly hit by several heavy bombing raids, some with long-life fuses. Due to the use at that time, soil contamination by operating materials (aviation fuel, etc.) has been detected in local areas.

After its use as an air base, a military hospital was built by the British armed forces, which was subsequently used by the Bundeswehr until the end of 2000. After several small-scale commercial uses, the site was completely abandoned in 2009.

The area covers about 18 hectares. In the future, several residential and recreational quarters (hotel, holiday village) are to be built here. For this purpose, it is necessary to remove all relics from the WWII era, the existing building fabric, the traffic routes and infrastructures on the entire site. Furthermore, it must be ensured that there are no risks for future use with regard to harmful soil changes and explosive ordnance.

Due to its former use as an airbase, the site is covered with waste-relevant fill materials that must be removed and separated before explosive ordnance can be explored. By classifying the materials, the aim is to ensure that as little as possible has to leave the site (disposal) and that the greater part can be reused for site profiling.
It must be taken into account that part of the site is located in a landscape conservation area.
to be integrated, which places further demands on the soil quality.
