Description

Franzen Industrie- und Gewerbebau GmbH carried out the construction of a specialist retail centre (usable area approx. 19,000 m²) on the former site of the Kertess company (An der Weide / Lehmweg) in the Südbahnhof area of Hanover.

The entire area of the Südbahnhof covers about 15 ha and was largely used as an inner-city commercial and industrial area after World War II. This included the above-mentioned area.

Due to the former use of the site as a chemical trade and storage site, considerable contamination of the groundwater and soil air by CFCs was known. The central area of the investigation site is enclosed by a sealing wall (so-called "sealing wall pot"), which serves to encapsulate the damaged area of the contaminated site from the surrounding area. As remediation of the damage was disproportionate due to economic criteria, we developed a safeguarding concept in coordination with the authorities involved, which enabled the commercial use of the area.

Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH was commissioned with the planning and supervision of the building demolition, the soil management, the expert monitoring of the earthworks measures, in particular the necessary gas drainage, as well as for the SiGe coordination and the coordination of the explosive ordnance disposal measures.

The development area including the associated development areas (car parks, ancillary area and new access road) had a total size of approx. 6 ha.
