Within the framework of the KORA research project "CHC damage case Hannover-Südstadt" (see link below), extensive laboratory and field investigations as well as complex prognosis calculations with a groundwater and pollutant transport model proved that degradation of the pollutants takes place through natural processes. The effect of these processes was accompanied by a monitoring programme.
The current work is based on a detailed monitoring programme from 2008 with recommendations for action to monitor the natural degradation of pollutants. This differentiates between the annual trend monitoring of selected groundwater monitoring sites and the status monitoring of a defined quality monitoring network. The current status monitoring in 2019 served to verify the predicted pollutant decline for the last time.
In November 2019, a total of 101 groundwater monitoring wells were sampled in the Hannover-Südstadt area. The chemical analysis of the volatile pollutants and the millieu parameters was carried out by various laboratories.
